Scribes Edge Out Chilliwack 7-5
The Scribes headed out to Chilliwack to take on the Crusaders on their home pitch at Townsend park as part of a double bill including a "meet-in-the-middle" match between TRU RFC and Gibsons RFC. Even though the Scribes were short a couple players, they still came out firing on all pistons and were quick to put pressure on Chilliwack in their own end. However both teams found it hard to capitalize on close range, often ending long drives with severe penalties that brought them back to the middle of the field. While defending their own end, the Scribes must of nodded off for a second because the Crusader scrum-half sailed through the defence without so much as a hand on him as Chilliwack scored the first try of the game. The Scribes were quick to respond however after the Crusaders coffed up the ball just outside the Scribes 22 landing into the hands of hefty lock Charles Bailey who broke a few tackles before runnign the length of the field and scoring underneath the uprights, putting the Scribes up by two points. That was all the scoring that day as the Scribes workd hard to protect their tiny lead. Tenacious defence highlighted by a bone jarring tackle by young Freddie on the wing gave the Scribes their much needed first win of the season. The team hopes to build on that next week at home where they will faced New Westminster's United RFC.
